Course Overview

Young artists will embark on an exciting journey filled with engaging activities designed to ignite their creativity while also allowing children some quiet focus and introspection after their busy school day.

Students will begin by exploring basic skills of line drawings and colours. They will use a variety of mediums, such as watercolours, acrylic paint, and wire to create various works of art. It is beneficial for students to be able to follow directions, demonstrate focus, and be willing to take risks in their creative expression. Mrs. Nicol may also employ some drama exercises for warm-ups and group building.  Students will be finished at 5 pm for immediate pick-up.

About the Instructor, Mrs. Nicol

An educator with 30 years’ experience, Aum Nicol has taught grades 1-9. Earning excellence in teaching, including Alberta provincial nominations, she often employed drama and art in core curriculum subjects. She also offered multiple after-school drama programs. Now retired and a member of ArtSpace, she is offering children the opportunity to create wire sculptures, paintings, and multi-media art projects. Creating Grande Prairie Children’s Festival in 2017-19, she believes that the arts are essential in various aspects of children, such as social development, problem-solving, communication, critical thinking, empathy, confidence, and self-expression. Her husband, Chris Nicol, is an assistant coach of high school basketball with their son. They moved to Creston from Grande Prairie, AB, to be close to family.
